Are you anticipating an outdoor outing for yourself and your family and want to make it a safe one? Are you unsure what gear you need to get to take with you? I have a few great recomendations that I feel are necessary when going on any outdoor excursion.
First thing that I would bring of course would be the essentials like water, food, and a first aide kit, but if you really want to play it safe I suggest that you think about something that can be used over and over even in your day to day schedule. The Garmin Rino 530 GPS Navigator, a GPS/two-way radio that has a 14-mile communication range is ideal for any outdoor excursion. This way if you have more than one of the Garmin Rino 530 GPS units and someone ends up injured and the other person needs to go after assistance the group can still keep in touch as well as be able to pinpoint the immobile persons location.
Granted there are less expensive Navigational systems that you could buy, but they most likely won't have the quality that the Garmin Rino 530 has. The Rino 530 also comes with a built in electronic compass, barometric altimeter, and NOAA weather receiver making it ideal for the outdoor enthusiast. This way when you are out walking the great outdoors you monitor the important things like weather conditions, and also keep track of which way you are going.
After all consideration if you still don't want to alot that much money on a Navigational system then there are other Navigational systems out there with just your basics that are less expensive. Like the Garmin eTrex series that has the electric compass, is water resistant up to 1 meter, and has reverse track log to point your way to the camp.
